ANNUAL EVENTS
Dune Day

Join us for Dune Day, an annual volunteer effort to replant dune grass and protect Ocean Beach's shoreline. Every plant counts! Look out for more details on instagram, facebook, and our newsletter.

Every year, we have a guest speaker come to Fire Island to discuss a topic relevant to our unique eco-system. Our 20th Annual Environmental Awareness Day is scheduled for Saturday, July 11th at 11 AM at the Ocean Beach Community House. This year, our guest speaker is Adrienne Esposito, discussing the quality of our water: Bay, Ocean and Tap.

Adrienne Esposito is a co-founder of Citizens Campaign for the Environment and has worked on numerous environmental campaigns for over 35 years.

She has crafted campaigns on environmental and public health protection issues including upgrading failing sewage treatment systems, protection and filtration of drinking and surface water, remediation of toxic plumes, critical stewardship of land and water, support for large scale renewable energy projects including offshore wind farms, advancing climate change protection measures, reduced pesticide application, and more.

Plant Swap & Tree Giveaway

Held at the beginning of each summer in May, the annual plant swap allows residents to pick up a free tree courtesy of the NYS DEC, swap seeds, plants and sprouts, connect with the community!

Beach Cleanup

Thanks to the Ocean Conservancy and in conjunction with its International Coastal Cleanup, VOBEC has historically held a beach cleanup in September. VOBEC organizes the event, debris on the beach is collected by volunteers, and VOBEC submits a summary of debris data to the Ocean Conservancy for tabulation into its annual report. This year we will be coordinating our cleanup efforts with Oakleyville, Point O'Woods, Ocean Bay Park, Seaview, Ocean Beach, Corneille Estates, Summer Club, Robbins Rest, Atlantique.Click here for more info
