NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY
VOBEC is undertaking the creation of a Natural Resource Inventory (NRI) to better understand and protect Ocean Beach’s unique environmental assets. The inventory will document local natural resources — including trees and other coastal and natural assets, as feasible — to support future sustainability, resiliency, and planning efforts. By collecting and mapping this data, the NRI can help guide conservation efforts, and prioritize and identify opportunities for the village’s long-term environmental planning.
As mature trees continue to be removed due to residential development, storms, and changing property conditions, Ocean Beach risks losing important environmental benefits like shade, stormwater absorption, habitat, and natural protection against heat and flooding.
Help VOBEC create a tree inventory:
Community participation and citizen science are a key part of this effort. Because many of the village’s trees are located on private property, VOBEC is asking residents to help contribute information and observations to build a more complete inventory.
