PHARMACEUTICAL DISPOSAL
Do you have prescriptions or over-the-counter medicines that have expired, or you just don't want anymore?

You may be tempted to flush them down the toilet, or toss them in the garbage. Don't do either! By flushing these items down the toilet, they can be released to surface water in the effluence from sewage treatment plants. By throwing them in the garbage, there is a possibility they could be released into groundwater.

The solution? In cooperation with the Ocean Beach Police Department, VOBEC has identified an environmentally friendly way to dispose of these unwanted medicines. Just bring them into the Police Station adjacent to the ferry station, and they will collect them for disposal via incineration, the best disposal method that is currently available.

Because the officers need to complete a "Property Receipt" when accepting these unused pharmaceuticals, please be prepared to provide your name, address, and phone number when you come in.

For instructions on how to safely dispose of pharmaceutical see dec.ny.gov/chemical/67720.html
